School Days with the Alberta Society of Artists

As Exhibits and Programs Assistant at the Alberta Society of Artists, I developed a craft activity for school groups participating in Alberta Culture Days. We had no idea what the age groups of participating schools would be, so I organized a collage activity inspired by a local artist that was suitable for all ages. Kids had fun glueing shapes and patterns onto a mini canvas and got to take home a mini easel!

The activity was inspired by the work of Diana Un-Jin Cho, a Calgary artists and member of the Alberta Society of Arts. Students got to take home a postcard featuring one of her works, which also doubled as bit of promotion for the Alberta Society of Artists. Here are a few collage pieces from her Chogak Colour Series:

I'm a dye hard fan of textile history and come from a family of crafters. I'm interested in learning more about embroidery by trying out age old techniques with a contemporary twist. I hope you enjoy looking through my projects and that they inspire you to give stitching a try!
