Tutorial: Mini Motto Magnets

Steps:

  1. Pick a motto and draw it or print it onto a piece of paper.
  2. Trace your motto onto fabric. Use a window as a light table.
  3. Put it in a hoop and stitch it using your favourite stitches. I like split stitch or backstitch stitch for text that has thick and thin lines. Chain stitch is also great for text.
  4. Cut out around your fabric with at least 1″ around finished size. Attach it to cardboard to create a magnet. Scroll down for photos of assembly.

If you don’t have a printer, lightly trace from a computer screen and then draw over it with pen. Then you can tape your pattern onto a window and trace it onto your fabric.

Use a gel pen to transfer the design onto black fabric.

I'm a dye hard fan of textile history and come from a family of crafters. I'm interested in learning more about embroidery by trying out age old techniques with a contemporary twist. I hope you enjoy looking through my projects and that they inspire you to give stitching a try!
